UMJC member congregation Beit HaShofar, Seattle, is pioneering the study of Mussar within the Messianic Jewish world. Mussar is a body of teachings and practices on ethical and spiritual transformation, which is gaining many adherents within the wider Jewish community. Beit HaShofar leader Jason Forbes and his wife, Malkah, have developed a Mussar website, rivertonmussar.org, and a learning community that applies Mussar within the foundation of faith in Messiah Yeshua.

On Sunday, December 4, Riverton Mussar is hosting its first kallah, or live learning experience, in Seattle, which Riverton Mussar members will be able to access for free. Rabbi Russ Resnik, UMJC executive director, will kick off the event, entitled "Ma Nishma? Doing the Shema according to Mussar." Discussions will consider the Shema (Deut. 6:4-9) , which Messiah described as the greatest commandment, as the basis for spiritual and ethical development. Riverton Mussar says, "You won’t experience lectures—you’ll experience Mussar alive. Drink deeply from the wellspring of sessions and walk away even more motivated to continue personal ethical change."
